In every nook,
ever cranny,
and every shadow
lies opportunity to shed light.

learn to recognize the opportunities and possibilities
in areas of darkness
and shed light wherever you go.

Top 10 Ways to get around without a car!

I am all about alternative transportation.  My motto: Burn Calories not Carbon!
I am a bike commuter, but I also like to explore other fabulous ways to get around.  Here are my favorite fossil-fuel-free ways of commuting!  Consider one of these ways next time you leave the house, k?
1. Bike- a classic carbon free way to get around (and get a great booty while you are at it)
2. Paddle:  If you live by any body of water, consider traveling by Kayak or canoe.  Its a great way to get you from place to place and increase your shoulder strength and heart rate!
3. Kanga Shoes:  My friend Debra here has a pair and they are just too much fun.  Put a little bounce in your step and soften the impact on your knees if you have trouble running.  I challenge you to try these and NOT smile.
5. Horse: Ok so this one may harder to come by, but if you have access to one, it is a great way to tone your thighs and core and get you where you want to go.  This here is Sophia the wonder horse. Hi Sophia!
6. Segway:  Speaks for itself. Awesome.  Epic. All that and a bag of chips.
7. Piggyback:  An age-old method of travel.  Fun for a minute, challenging the rest of the time.  Nevertheless, worth a try if you have a larger and willing friend to cart you around.
8. Traveling long distance?  Why not travel by mail?
9. Wheel Chair: Definitely an underutilized mode of transit- it's Efficient and an amazing arm workout.
10. A good old fashioned Pair of Boots: So your destination is 100 miles away...Plan ahead! Pack a bag with shelter and supplies and hit the road by foot.  Think of the people on the Oregon Trail- they made it all the way out west, What's a couple hundred miles by feet?
And there you have it.  Next time you get in your car to go to the store, consider one of these options and go in style!  Your body and the air quality will thank you for it.
Get adventurous. Break out of the norm.  Be weird.
Namaste.

When life hands you olive oil...

...Invite your family and friends to dress up and taste it!

It was last April at the final ceremony of the Santa Cruz Challenge, an 8 week fitness and life transformation challenge that my name came up in a drawing that won me a tasting party for 12 friends at Olive Connection, Santa Cruz's hot spot for local and unique small batch olive oil and vinegars.

Since I'm pretty much broke and never get to treat friends to anything cool, I wanted this to be a way to celebrate the people that have been there and supported me in so many ways! Thanks Friends :)

It's Raining, It's Pouring

Well, It has been 1 year, 1 month and 2 days since I sold my car to get a little lighter on the earth and even though it is pouring rain, I couldn't be happier! Here's my trusty white stallion:
I just calculated that I am racking up about 73 miles per week on her...which also explains the quads of steel...
The rain brings cleansing energy, not only making the plants and soil clean and happy, but forcing me to stay inside and focus on the important things in life like homework, taxes, writing blog posts, adventure planning and practicing handstands.
Tomorrow I continue my journey of learning to quantify matter in the universe and head to chemistry class.  I am hoping by the graces of the creative spirit I can go play music and sing in the mountains with my dear sweet Becky poo. namaste.
